Meet MONOLAMA: the jewellery brand built on art, architecture and fashion

MONOLAMA is different by design. The brand is the creation of two architects-turned-jewellery designers, who mix world influences, modern styles, geometric shapes and humour, to produce pins, rings, earrings and pendants.

Read on to find out more about their design processes, inspirations and love of llamas.

Tell us a bit about MONOLAMA?

MONOLAMA is a jewellery and design brand inspired by modern art, architecture and fashion. The brand was founded in 2013 by young architects Jane Gazolajewa and Pauline Chertovitskaya. All the jewellery is made using a laser and assembled by hand in our mini-factory in Moscow.

Whereabouts are you based?

We are based in the historical centre of Moscow, close to Yauza river, in one of the buildings of a former liquor factory that is now a progressive loft space with a bunch of aspiring young entrepreneurs.

When did you launch?

How did you get into jewellery design?

During our college years we had a lot of experience with architectural models made from plexiglass. Then we noticed that this material can be very interesting to wear. The forms and the colours inspired us to create jewellery.

What motivates you to do what you do?

We are always inspired by modern architecture, art and especially traveling.

What are the inspirations behind the name MONOLAMA?

We chose the brand name randomly. We just like llamas 🙂

How would you describe your brand style in one sentence?

Modern eye-catching jewellery made to amaze those around you.

What’s your all time favourite item from MONOLAMA?

The sleeping heart necklace. It is wearable as a choker and as a necklace and can fit both casual and evening looks.

What’s your advice for anyone who wants to create their own jewellery brand?

If you have an awesome product that you absolutely can’t live without, it’s already a winner – go for it! The key here is to be daring and enthusiastic without fretting over minor inconsistencies or being anxious about possible outcomes. Go out and reach for your dreams!

Why do you think video is important for selling?

Video is surely important for selling because you can see all the products in one small movie, get a good impression and then imagine how you might wear our jewellery.

What are your top three style tips?

We like minimalistic styles paired with bright pins. Don’t forget to put on eye-catching earnings with a perfect black dress. We also like out of the ordinary necklaces with plain white or striped t-shirts.
